Septic tank replacement in Indiana

Tanks fail quietly. A cracked or collapsing tank, a baffle that has rotted out, or a tank too small for a house that has gained bedrooms all end in the same place: a replacement the county permits. Indiana approves the tanks that may be used, so the replacement is chosen from what the state has approved rather than from whatever is on the truck.

Where does the county come into septic tank replacement?

Replacement of a system component is permitted work, and the state maintains a list of approved manufactured septic tanks.

When do you need this?

  • The tank is cracked, leaking or collapsing.
  • Baffles or the outlet filter have failed.
  • The house gained bedrooms and the tank is now undersized.
  • An inspection at sale flagged the tank.

What drives the price?

  • Tank size, which follows the bedroom count.
  • Depth and access, which decide how much machine time it takes.
  • Whether the old tank is abandoned in place or removed.
  • Whether the field has to be touched at the same time.

We do not print a price here. Septic work is quoted from a site visit and a soil report, and a number on a web page is a guess dressed as a fact.

What should you ask the contractor?

  • Is the replacement tank on the state approved list.
  • Is the outlet filter included and how do I service it.
  • Does the old tank get pumped and abandoned properly.
  • Does this work need a permit in this county, and who pulls it.
